Тенденция развития современных химических датчиков заключается в применении микроэлектроники и программируемых контроллеров. Все это ведет к созданию нового класса интеллектуальных химических детекторов. В состав таких датчиков, как правило, встроены схемы первичной обработки данных, что позволяет их легко связывать, практически, с любыми системами анализа результатов измерений [48-50]. Интеллектуальные химические датчики также имеют в своем составе интерфейсные схемы для связи с другими устройствами и схемы, позволяющие проводить их калибровку и компенсацию локальных смещений; таким образом, системам сбора и обработки информации остается только принять измеренные данные. Интеллектуальные датчики часто выполняют рутинные операции преобразования единиц измерения из одной системы в другую (например, из % в ррm) и выдают выходные значения в любой системе. Поэтому такие датчики могут передавать данные в центральный процессор в тех единицах, которые он запросил, что исключает необходимость применения масштабирующих коэффициентов.

В настоящее время разработано много технологических методов изготовления датчиков. Выбор тех или иных методов всегда диктуется конструкцией конкретного детектора. Для каждого типа материала: полупроводников, металлов, керамики и пластмасс разработаны свои собственные технологии обработки. В этой главе будут кратко рассмотрены характеристики некоторых материалов и описаны самые распространенные методы работы с ними.
